Are you ready for a paradigm shift?
Digitalization has developed to become the central driving force for the evolution of social and economic systems. In the course of this, not only business models or process efficiency change in certain corporate divisions, but ultimately all processes, the entire organization and its culture, right up to the steering philosophy for the “new” and the “old” world.
At present, executives from all industries are intensively engaged in the analysis of the important, sometimes radical changes in order to more effectively and more efficiently anchor the advantages of new technological possibilities in the organization and the corporate culture, and in this way to make use of them. The new technologies serve as tools in this process. However, in order to leverage the resulting opportunities, a transformation of the entire added value systems is inevitable.
Current research in controlling usually has a strong focus on technology and concentrates on what can be improved and achieved through the use of new technologies. Ultimately, however, technological developments merely form the basis, in the sense of paving the way. In order to take advantage of the diverse opportunities and the potential of digitalization, a paradigm shift in the way that both executives and their teams think and act has to take place. So far, there has not been a structured analysis that accounts for all relevant dimensions.
This study is therefore concerned with the influences of digitalization on controlling departments. It is based on the relevant analysis dimensions of culture, organization, the understanding of roles, processes, information, and the system landscape (CORPIS).
The study is intended to allow companies a critical self-reflection on the basis of the current and individual corporate situation, and serves as a guide for realizing the transformation by giving concrete recommendations for action.
